Local Food Programs & Community Projects

FOODCARE - HOLIDAY HAMPER PROGRAM

Our FoodCare Holiday Hamper Program ensures food security during the holiday seasons (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas) for hundreds of people living in Northumberland County. Our Christmas program goes beyond the traditional hamper by providing families, seniors and individuals with a bountiful selection of fresh produce from Burnham Family Farm Market, a prepared holiday dinner by Prep Food, baked goods, and a variety of snacks. What sets us apart is our commitment to delivering these food hampers on Christmas Eve. We understand the importance of access to food during the holidays, and we strive to make a difference by ensuring that everyone can enjoy a nourishing meal on this special day.

By generously donating to FoodCare, you play a crucial role in advancing our mission of promoting food security for all. With your support, we can not only fill empty tables but also fill countless hearts with the true essence of the holidays. Join us in making a difference today.

COMMUNITY FOOD FRIDGE

The Cobourg Community Fridge addresses three things: food access, food security and food rescue. Think of it as mini free library but instead of books it’s filled with fresh food! Folks can come by and grab food available in the fridge.

Per public health guidelines, we can only accept foods from inspected kitchens such as restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores and food banks. We kindly ask individuals to not donate leftovers, food prepared at home or produce purchased during your shopping. Folks wishing to help with the purchase of fresh food, prepared meals, and other items for the fridge can make a monetary donation.

If you are associated with a restaurant, bakery, grocery store or licensed kitchen and you are interested in becoming a food rescue partner please email info@localfoodforlocalgood.ca.

Program update: We are currently working on finding a new location for the Community Fridge. In the meantime, we continue to rescue food from our business partners, redistributing food donations to community organizations.
